Immersive Intelligence

Applied AI for AR/VR Systems

India's first AR/VR programme built on the AI layer: taught with IIT Bhubaneswar faculty in a MeitY-backed immersive technology lab, priced for students, with partner startups in the room and a final project defended before an industry jury.

About the programme

A programme built on the layer every other AR/VR course leaves out

See. Understand. Converse. Ship.

Every major AR/VR programme currently offered in India teaches immersive development as either a design discipline or a games-engine discipline. The curricula are built around Unity, Unreal and content-creation tooling. What is almost entirely absent is the machine-learning layer that now underpins the field: the computer vision that makes tracking work, the generative models that have collapsed the cost of 3D asset production, and the language models that are redefining interaction inside immersive environments.

Immersive Intelligence is designed around that gap. It treats AI not as an appendix to AR/VR but as the engine of it. Participants finish able to build immersive applications that see, understand and converse, and to defend the engineering choices behind them in front of an industry jury.

The employable core of that skill set is applied computer vision and on-device AI: camera geometry, feature matching, real-time perception, custom detector training, quantisation and edge deployment. That is a large and growing market across manufacturing, surveillance, agritech, automotive, robotics and logistics. XR is what makes those skills tangible, demonstrable and enjoyable to learn, and what makes a graduate's portfolio look unlike anyone else's in their batch.

What you will build

Seven working builds before the final project. Each one runs on your own phone or in the headset, and each one is published to your own code repository, so you finish with work you can show.

  1. 01Week 3 · An AR app on your own phone that places virtual objects in a real room
  2. 02Week 6 · A VR training scene with three ways to interact, running smoothly on a headset
  3. 03Week 9 · An AR/VR interface you control with hand gestures
  4. 04Week 10 · An AR app that recognises a real object using an AI model you trained yourself
  5. 05Week 12 · A voice assistant you can talk to inside an AR or VR scene
  6. 06Week 15 · A complete 3D environment made from photos and AI, with no manual modelling
  7. 07Week 16 · A talking AI avatar that lives inside a VR or AR scene
A developer in a headset reaching into floating holographic panels showing anatomy, architecture, drones, heritage sites and vehicles.
Industrial, heritage, healthcare and education: the three vertical tracks from which final-project problem statements are drawn.

Faculty

Taught by IIT Bhubaneswar faculty, with practising engineers and partner startups

IIT Bhubaneswar faculty own all AI, computer-vision and mathematics theory, live and recorded, and ratify every grade. Practising industry engineers teach the AR/VR production material. Six partner startups take one live class each. Teaching assistants run every laboratory, one for every 25 participants.

Structure

Six months, four phases

One live class and one live laboratory every weekend, two hours of recorded lectures each week, a graded build task, and two campus immersions at VARCoE.

  1. Phase 1 · Weeks 1–6

    Immersive foundations

Unity and C#, mobile AR, VR interaction and performance

  2. Phase 2 · Weeks 7–12

    AI and computer vision core

PyTorch, camera geometry, real-time perception, detection, on-device deployment, LLM agents

  3. Phase 3 · Weeks 13–18

    Spatial, generative and embodied AI

SLAM and scene understanding, generative 3D, avatars and ethics, networked XR, product design and evaluation

  4. Phase 4 · Weeks 19–24

    Vertical track and final project

Vertical domain sessions, four project sprints, portfolio and careers, Demo Day

Campus

Two immersions at VARCoE, IIT Bhubaneswar

The Virtual and Augmented Reality Centre of Excellence is where the headsets, the capture rig and the GPU workstations are. Both two-day blocks are mandatory: the first at the midpoint of the programme, the second for Demo Day and certification.

Immersion 1
The weekend after Week 12 (midpoint). Headset onboarding and safety; deploying your Milestone 2 scene and Week 11 benchmark build to a Quest 3.
Immersion 2
Week 24 (end of programme). Final project integration laboratory: headset and hardware testing, performance tuning, dry runs; industry code review of the final builds.

Startup Spotlight

Six startups in the room, one every fourth week

Every fourth week the live class is taken by a partner startup: the shipped product, the architecture behind it, the market it sells into and the roles it hires for. Each startup also contributes project problem statements, names a mentor, sits on the Demo Day jury and joins a hiring panel in Week 22.

  1. Spotlight 1 · Week 2

Mobile and consumer AR: retail, social or product visualisation

  2. Spotlight 2 · Week 6

    Enterprise VR training and simulation

  3. Spotlight 3 · Week 10

Computer vision and edge AI: industrial inspection, drones, robotics or logistics

  4. Spotlight 4 · Week 14

3D capture, digital twins or generative 3D

  5. Spotlight 5 · Week 18

    Healthcare, education or conversational-AI XR

  6. Spotlight 6 · Week 22

Spatial computing or a second vertical, closing with a joint hiring panel of all six startups

Partner startups for Cohort 1 are being confirmed from the VARCoE incubation pool and the REP network and will be announced before applications close.

About Vectons

An applied-AI education company, teaching with an IIT

IIT Bhubaneswar Research and Entrepreneurship Park

Vectons Private Limited, known as Vectons, designs and runs skill courses in artificial intelligence, computer vision and AR/VR development, delivered in academic association with the Research and Entrepreneurship Park (REP) and the Virtual and Augmented Reality Centre of Excellence (VARCoE) at IIT Bhubaneswar. Its first programme, Immersive Intelligence, is a six-month certificate course in applied AI for AR/VR systems: live weekend classes with IIT Bhubaneswar faculty and industry engineers, two immersion blocks in the VARCoE laboratory, a Startup Spotlight series, and a final project presented to an industry jury.

The course is built for second-, third- and fourth-year engineering students, diploma holders and working professionals who want a portfolio in computer vision, on-device AI and immersive technology rather than a certificate alone. It is the only AR/VR course in India that teaches the machine-learning layer underneath the engine: camera geometry, real-time perception, custom detector training, edge deployment, spatial AI, generative 3D and language-model agents inside XR.

Admissions open · Cohort 1 begins December 2026

Open to second-, third- and fourth-year engineering students, diploma holders and working professionals
